CAMELOT FALLEN

The tale of King Arthur and his knights has been told and retold countless times over a thousand years. In recent decades, authors and filmmakers have highlighted the pagan, druidic roots of the original Celtic legends, the possible historical sources for the iconic characters, and the grit and grime of Post-Roman Britain over the romantic sheen of the High Middle Ages. However, in many of the early medieval stories, especially The Quest for the Holy Grail, Arthur and his knights were not just chivalric heroes, but spiritual champions as well. While drawing on classic aspects and influences throughout the Arthurian canon, CAMELOT FALLEN returns the tale to its medieval Christian legacy, full of theology and allegory, telling an epic story of love, faith, despair, and redemption.

THE TRAGEDY OF EVIL
Representations of Sin and Human Nature in 17th Century Literature

Without question, our world is filled with pain, wickedness, and inexplicable atrocities, and for thousands of years, philosophers and theologians have been struggling to understand and explain the true nature of evil. In this dissertation, I will examine three different expressions of evil found throughout classic works of 17th century literature, from the idea of evil as a pure, Satanic force, to the inherent evil in mankind which may seduce and corrupt even the best among us, to the sometimes ambiguous nature of evil, which leaves the question of who we may call the true villain largely unanswered. Each of these manifestations will contribute a chapter to the epic narrative of mankind, in which evil itself it the ultimate tragedy...

REX QUONDAM, REXQUE FUTURUS
The Heroic Role of King Arthur Throughout History

William Shakespeare once wrote that “cowards die many times before their deaths; the valiant never taste of death but once.” The deeper meaning, of course, is that the cowardly may experience many forms of moral, spiritual, and emotional death throughout their time on this earth, but a person who is heroic and honourable will only die physically. According to legend, the tomb of King Arthur is marked by the cryptic inscription, “Here lies Arthur, the Once and Future King.” Although this epithet is meant to signify the promise of Arthur’s prophesied messianic return, the phrase may also be adapted to the premise that the character of King Arthur is a changing, dynamic hero who serves as a touchstone for the ideals of the various times and cultures in which his tales have been recorded. Although the weak and craven may die a thousand times, it would seem that Arthur has instead lived a thousand times...
